UFO #7: Panache Fabric line Quilt (a.k.a. The UnPicked Wonder)

The fabric for this quilt was given to me for my birthday back in about 2009 (I think). I loved the way all of theses fabrics looked together and was so excited to make them into something fabulous. At this time I was still an armature quilter. I had never made anything bigger than a baby quilt. So I was excited to make myself a throw quilt. I found a pattern called Mocha Madness. It looked so pretty. I cut out all my fabrics and pieced together all my blocks. When I was ready to sew the blocks together, I laid them out on the floor.

Here is one block.

That looks fine.

Here are the blocks next to each other.

Yuck! I hated it. I now understand that the fabrics were too busy for the design I choose.

Now what? I couldn't make this quilt and enjoy it. It was too ugly. So I did what any quilter would do. I tucked it away in my closet for a year or so until I could come to grips with what must be done: some major unpicking. I unpicked everything but the stars and half square triangles. Then I put it away for another year, until I finally came up with a pattern.

And I love, love, love the way it all came out.

The back was made from some of the unpicked pieces.
