UFO #28: Zig Zag Red Riding Hood Quilt

 I'm addicted to zig-zags right now.  Last year I found a pattern that let you make zig-zags without half square triangles.  So of course I had to try it.  This is made from a "jelly roll" which made the process so quick.

The back is not my favorite, I was being cheep and just used the extra strips to piece the back so I didn't have to buy so much fabric.  But who really looks at the back any way, right?  It's the front that I'm in love with.

 Anyone need a throw quilt?

Triangle Quilt

 Sometimes I just get a hankering to cut out fabric for a new quilt. This happened last week.  I had seen this quilt on line and pinned it, then the high quality solid fabrics were on sale at Joann's, so the timing was right.

My triangles are 6 1/2", so it came together really fast.  I love the bright colors and the blue on the back is a gorgeous shade of blue.

UFO #35: Gingham Inspired Baby Blanket

 I saw someone make a gingham look blanket on pinterest and had to try it.  It was super quick and easy to make.  I had this flannel fabric that went great with it.  My little boy loves the tractors on the back and wishes he could have the blanket (but he has PLENTY of blankets).

UFO #16: Dr. Seuss Quilt

 My mom loves Dr. Seuss fabrics.  Over a couple years she had collected quite the stash.  She found this pattern and wanted my help laying it out.  In the process she also found out she had enough Dr. Seuss fabric to make 4 of these quilts.  So we cut out enough to make 2 quilts for her and 2 quilts for me.  She made one of the quilts for my brother's baby.  Her sashing was done in yellow.

If you know me, then you know my favorite color.  And I couldn't pass up an opportunity to do my sashing in my favorite color.  I like the way it turned out.

I put yellow fleece on the back for extra snugglyness. I quilted around each block and then fallowed the white lines in the striped blocks.  Someday when I get better, and if I haven't given this quilt away, I would like to do stippling in the Thing One blocks.

UFO #15:Hidden Star Quilt

 
This is one of those quilts that I saw and had to make.  The top was super fun to make and turned out great. I'm in love with the pattern.  It was made from a charm pack. I'm loving charm packs right now. I love that you can get a whole bunch of different fabrics to make a well matching scrappy quilt.

 

The quilt is backed with fleece.  It makes it a light weight, but warm and snugly quilt.

 

I started quilting this quilt months ago on my mom's new Singer Confidence Quilter sewing machine.  In the sashing I used the curvy stitch.  Unfortunately I didn't get finished and a couple weeks later the mother board on her machine failed.  Luckily it was still under warranty (by only a couple of days).  She waited months to get her machine back (a machine that she didn't really want back anyway).  Finally the people said they would just give her a new machine.   She told them she really didn't want that machine.  She was unhappy with it's features as well as the fact that it couldn't sew over a seam.  They said she could upgrade, but the dealer she bought it from didn't have what she wanted so they gave her her money back!  It was God sent that it all went down that way.  She was able to get a new even better machine!

Well, we both were. Hee, hee.  :0)  I'll tell you more later.  For now, I'll just say I was able to use my new machine to finish the quilting (it has a curvy stitch).

Modern Hour Glass Quilt

 I saw this quilt on the Internet. It was one of those quilt patterns where I immediately fell in LOVE with it, stopped all my other projects, and turned my entire focus on it.  I got the fabrics from Hobby Lobby and started on it that day while the kiddos napped.

The pattern was supper easy.  Just a bunch of hour glass blocks turned on their point.

The colors are just right to make it fun and modern.  The one thing that didn't turn out quite like I'd envisioned was the size of the blocks.  I thought I was making them large enough, but they still turned out smaller than I would have preferred.  I was going for the big, large block look like the one I saw.

Oh, well. Still love it.

I love the back too. Fresh, modern, cheep.

There is one big flaw in this quilt.  I was so excited to get it done that I didn't baste it to the best of my ability.  So...when I was quilting it there are parts on the back that pucker and fold over into the stitching.

Still love it.

It is a child sized throw quilt, but now that it is done I'm not sure what to do with it.  Does any one want it?

Some day I hope to make another one very similar, only bigger blocks and bigger quilt.

UFO # 18: Nine Patch Cat Quilt

My first UFO finish! Yahoo! OK, so it was an easy finish (all it need was for the binding to be hand turned). But still, one done 26 more to go.

This quilt was inspired by the backing print which I fell in love with. I decided to keep it simple with nine patch blocks that used the same colors as the backing print.

The binding is my favorite part. This it the first quilt that I have made with a scrappy binding. I think you will see more scrappy bindings in the future.
