Graduation Quilt

This spring I was commissioned to make a graduation quilt.  I love the way it turned out.

The parents of the graduate had an embroidery company embroider the bears, the football in the middle, and a message in the bottom corner.

I did some appliqué for the BR, LND, and Class of 2014 blocks.  Usually I do raw edge applique, but this time I did a satin stitch around the applique to make it go better with the embroidered blocks.  I must say I did a pretty good job for never doing the satin stitch before. :)

I put minky on the back and I quilted it with strait lines.  This is the biggest quilt I've ever quilted.  At first it was challenging. But then as I got the hang of the "fluff and stuff" method of quilting it became quite doable.  I might even try this big of quilt again. :)

#3: Rylee's Quilt

The next baby to be born was Rylee.  I had found the backing for this quilt at Hobby Lobby and fell in love with it.  I knew just who to give it to if she had a girl, and luckily she did!

The layout of this quilt is kind of a mini version of  Hannalee's Flower quilt.  I love doing the appliqué owl and birds and they turned out just as cute on this quilt.  One of my favorite blocks is still the Ohio Star so I had to keep that too.  Also, pinwheels just scream baby girl to me. :)  The last row I actually made two versions of.  I wasn't sure I liked it so I inversed it to have the color be where the white is and have the bigger sections be white.  That didn't turn out very cute, so I  stuck with the original block.  I like it now, it grew on me.

I quilted each row based on the block.  But my favorite quilting thing is the clouds.  Don't you love them?!
