UFO #7: Panache Fabric line Quilt (a.k.a. The UnPicked Wonder)

The fabric for this quilt was given to me for my birthday back in about 2009 (I think). I loved the way all of theses fabrics looked together and was so excited to make them into something fabulous. At this time I was still an armature quilter. I had never made anything bigger than a baby quilt. So I was excited to make myself a throw quilt. I found a pattern called Mocha Madness. It looked so pretty. I cut out all my fabrics and pieced together all my blocks. When I was ready to sew the blocks together, I laid them out on the floor.

Here is one block.

That looks fine.

Here are the blocks next to each other.

Yuck! I hated it. I now understand that the fabrics were too busy for the design I choose.

Now what? I couldn't make this quilt and enjoy it. It was too ugly. So I did what any quilter would do. I tucked it away in my closet for a year or so until I could come to grips with what must be done: some major unpicking. I unpicked everything but the stars and half square triangles. Then I put it away for another year, until I finally came up with a pattern.

And I love, love, love the way it all came out.

The back was made from some of the unpicked pieces.

Girls Night Out

Some friends from my old house and I had a girls night out. (Thanks Heather and Danielle.) We went to a lady's house (I can't remember her name right now) and created some cute wood crafts.

Here is my penguin:

I love that he is all glittery. A perfect addition to my front door. And a great refreshing night.

UFO # 18: Nine Patch Cat Quilt

My first UFO finish! Yahoo! OK, so it was an easy finish (all it need was for the binding to be hand turned). But still, one done 26 more to go.

This quilt was inspired by the backing print which I fell in love with. I decided to keep it simple with nine patch blocks that used the same colors as the backing print.

The binding is my favorite part. This it the first quilt that I have made with a scrappy binding. I think you will see more scrappy bindings in the future.

UFOs

No, I'm not going crazy. But I have spotted A LOT of UFOs around my house, as in UnFinished Objects. My mom and I have a goal for the year. We have to finish at least half of our UFOs. Also we are competing against each other to see who can finish the most UFOs. (I'm going to win. :0)

I am going to embarrassingly write down (from oldest the newest) my UFOs. (There are 27, don't tell my husband. ;0) As I finish each one, I will post about it.

Christmas Jacket

Here is the jacket that I made my little girl for Christmas.

I loved making it. Fleece is so forgiving to sew with and the edges don't fray so there was no surging involved and hem tuning was a cinch.

Love this look :)

My Newest Project (Double Hour Glass Blocks)

I had this pile of fat quarters I got on Black Friday. I loved the bright colors and was going to do a Drunkards Path type quilt with them. But it just didn't feel right. So, they sat on my shelf calling my name every time I would walk into my craft room. I searched my craft magazines and scoured the Internet looking for the perfect pattern.

Finally I stumbled upon this website:
http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/09/tutorial-double-hourglass-blocks-easy.html

Allison Harris has a fun blog and tons of great quilts. I fell in love with her Double Hourglass quilt and the fun and easy way she creates the block.

The blocks go together so quickly and easily. I started out using a template like she did, but about half way through I realized I had 90 degree ruler that worked even better. Better late than never.

I have about 25 blocks done. I'm not sure how many blocks I'll do or how big the quilt will be. I'm just going with the flow and enjoying making these blocks. It is sure a great destresser.

I'm Still Here

I have a new plan for this blog. I am mostly going to use it to document my craft and quilting projects. I also want to use it to follow my favorite quilt and craft blogs (see side bar).

However, things I make are still for sale and I am still up for hire, as in making customized things for you. Just let me know anytime you see something you like, I might be willing to sell it or I'll make you one like it.
